Igo and Ono know what this work is for. The Zogg Fire burned through this exact country in 2020, and the Carr Fire had already scarred the ground toward Whiskeytown two years before that. In the west-county foothills, vegetation work is not landscaping - it is the difference a property can actually control when the next start comes with wind behind it.
We work this ground the only way it can be worked - on foot: defensible space cut to the CAL FIRE 100-foot standard around homesites, fuel reduction through the oak and gray pine country, and access and fence lines kept open through ground that closes fast.

Walk the Zogg footprint and the lesson is written on the ground: fire found its speed in cured grass and its reach in ladder fuel, and the properties that fared best were the ones that had broken both up ahead of time. Defensible space is exactly that preparation - lean, clean ground at the structure, thinned fuel beyond it, and no continuous path for flame to follow home.
Regrowth is the west county's current chapter. Burned ground comes back as brush and whip growth thicker than what preceded it, and five years on, plenty of parcels carry a heavier fine-fuel load than they did before the fire. Keeping ahead of it is a cutting schedule, not a one-time job.
The foothill parcels out here defeat machinery honestly: steep grades, rock, tight oak draws and long distances from pavement. None of it stops a crew on foot. We cut the slopes, the draws and the ground around structures with brush cutters and hand tools, stage the material, and leave the soil holding the hillside intact.
Every job runs on the company's standard paper: written scope, $1M general liability insurance, and before-and-after photos - documentation that matters double in a corridor where insurers are watching fuel conditions closely.
