Old fencing is the junk drawer of rural property: runs of failed barbed wire sagging through the weeds, field fence rusted into the grass, posts leaning at every angle - useless for stock, dangerous for people, animals and tires, and in the way of whatever you want the ground to become. We take it out properly: wire cut, pulled and rolled, posts out of the ground, the line walked and left clean.

There is a wrong way to remove fence - yank it out with a machine, leave broken wire in the dirt and snapped posts at ground level - and it creates a worse hazard than the standing fence did. We do it by hand and do it completely: wire cut into manageable runs, pulled from the growth, rolled tight; posts pulled or dug so nothing is left as a hidden stub; the line walked afterward to police up staples, clips and fragments.
Buried and overgrown wire is the specialty case we see constantly. Wire that has lived in the grass for a decade is half-swallowed by the ground and threaded through everything growing above it.
